Seems you were determined to give your grandson a sound spanking which rather put a dent in his hopes of a spanking holiday during his convalescing.

You have worked out an alternative method of slippering that managed to by-pass his bending over your knee. A satisfactory outcome for all - er well maybe not for the young man himself.
