It is the same old scrubbed huge oak table we sit at. A welcome cooling down following hosing the horses down after an early morning ride. My sister (2 years my senior) has the kettle on for a cup of tea. I glance fondly around the old farmhouse kitchen. Rustic certainly, fussy for sure, but so homely. I love this room.

Sis plonks a mug of tea in front of me. A plate of biscuits lie between us. I comment that the leather strap is no longer hanging on the door. Her son – now 23 – politely asked her to put it away, she tells me. I laugh and ask if his hands were protectively pressed against his buttocks when he made the request. She nods, smiling.

“I can 't think why,” she says all innocence.

Just a bit of background on her son. He was trouble in his teens. Mixed with the wrong crowd. The boy was lazy, rude and rebellious. Suffice to say, his backside was tanned on many an occasion with that strap, wielded by his mother. But that is all history. He has bucked up his ideas big time, and turned over a new leaf. Now he is a trainee manager with a supermarket , and doing well by all accounts. The young man has really matured.

“I popped round and saw Mum yesterday,” my sister informs me “and she is doing well after her bout of flu”.

Mum is in her late 70s now, and it is always worrying for Sis and I when she is ill.

“Do you know what she said to me?” continues she.

I shake my head, expecting something daft and eccentric.

“Mum said she always felt really invigorated after giving you a good spanking!” says Sis giggling.

“Invigorated?” I ask, my face flushing some “and why when spanking ME, and not YOU?” I splutter in some indignation.

Sis raise her eyebrows at me, an amused expression on her face.

“Maybe,, just maybe, because she had a lot more experience tanning your bare bottom than she did mine?” she teases.

She had a point there, so I try a different tack.

“Why 'really invigorated' though'?” I ask “makes it sound as if she enjoyed giving me a good spanking”.

My face is very pink now.

Sis shrugs, grinning at my discomfort.

“I am sure Mum did not like having to give you a spanking, Mark, but when she had to......,” More shrugging from Sis “well, she sort of relished the task!”.

Call me a coward, if you will, but I thought this was a good time to change topics, and we chatted away for a while before I set of home. Mothers. What is it with them?

Sis and Mum had me thinking though. I appreciate that giving a good spanking is a physical workout and you get a buzz and a glow just as you do after any exercise. Not sure that is what Mum meant though? One thing for sure though, is that next time I see Mum, I just know I will blush.

Do any mothers, grandmothers, or guardians here ever feel “really invigorated” after giving a naughty child/teen a good sound spanking?
