All the spankings were well deserved. It sounds like Steven's was probably the most serious of all based on his behavior and age.

I've had to spank at rest areas a couple times with the most recent being when my younger two daughters were 16 and 14 for continued arguing. My husband parked at the far end of the parking lot where no one else was around and then I spanked them one at a time in the van with the one either standing outside of the van either waiting to be spanked or waiting for me to finish spanking her sister. My husband and oldest daughter didn't stick around the van and we eventually met up with them after both spankings were given. We pass the rest area every now and then on trips and comments have been made about, "Oh that's where mom spanked."

I am sure Steven was not happy about getting spanked in front of others, but it was choice behave so poorly in front of the family. Did you bring soap from home for the mouthwashing or just use what was available? Did Steven enjoy the last day of the trip even if had a sore bottom?
