I have always been against summer school, kids need that time away from school to run and play and have fun I also believe they need that mental break from school, since the bad grades are due to a lack of effort then I would give a serious spanking. What you could also do is may be use the threat of summer school next near if they don't buckle down this coming school year.

In person schooling or when we had the online schooling due to Covid I handle grades and schooling the same. With my boys I don't just go by their grades but the effort they put in, or don’t put in. Donny is basically a C student with the occasional B, he works hard for that C as school is hard for him but I've told him I'm ok with the C as long as he is doing his best.

Scott is a brain and school is easy for him he is an A-B student, but can get lazy too. Donny's best subject has been math that's where he gets his occasional B and he gets so happy about that. Bobby in grade school hated it with a passion, it's a constant struggle with him now in Jr. and Sr. high he tolerates it but still does not like school.
