Oh yes, I know exactly what you mean and where you are coming from. It's something that has always frustrated me as well. I have heard all of those excuses, many times over. And you are right, they did hear/didn't forget, they just don't want to actually admit why they didn't do their chores because they know telling the truth, "I didn't want to/I wanted to play video games/watch TV", will assuredly lead to a trip over our lap and a well spanked bottom. So instead, we get "I don't know, I forgot" or shrugging of the shoulders.

But I quickly remind them "you know what lying also earns in this home, young man (lady)." Which then they will spill out the truth. I commend them for telling the truth, but scold them for their original misbehavior. And like yourself, I can't wait to get them over my lap and spank their bare bottom soundly, which soon follows.
