I think having a really good cry did Jack good too. However much he gritted his teeth, in the end the hairbrush made him bawl and I felt he let out a lot of bad stuff he had been bottling up when he did.

We used to have lovely talks when we went for one of our walks and also when Jack was helping me in the kitchen. Sometimes he wanted to talk after a spanking, but often he just wanted to bury his face and cry and that was fine too.
