Well done. That was a spanking well earned for your son. And good for you in taking care of it during the car ride. I believe you said Ben is younger and waiting multiple hours to discipline is just too long, in my opinion.
We have another home up north we usually use at least a couple times a year, although it is a bit of a drive of around 5 hours. With that long of a drive, much like with your children, fighting and general misbehavior during the car ride eventually always happened. Kids get irritated being cooped up for a long time, even with stops periodically. The little ones especially get bored. That said, I still expected good behavior, even under the more challenging conditions and they knew spankings would happen if they acted up on the way.
As you can imagine, there were many times over the years I had my husband pull off into a rest stop so I could administer a much needed spanking, or spankings, if the kids weren't able to listen to my warnings. I would take the children out of the van to an out-of-the-way picnic table where the spanking(s) could not be seen (but I am sure was/were still heard).
Where I haven't spanked my children at a rest stop in many years now, it's something I have still done in more recent years with children I've babysat, including with Andy when he's traveled with us to our place up north.
