Maria's definition of art makes it clear that there is indeed a good case to be made for spanking as an art.

But, given the following definition of science, does it not also qualify there as well?

"Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence."

It certainly involves the "application of knowledge and understanding". A thorough application can immediately give the recipient a new sense of understanding and knowledge. Particularly an understanding of what is not acceptable behavior in their "natural and social world". And it undeniable that the application is done with a "systematic methodology".

Consider the following:

"Traditionally, art and science have been treated as two separate disciplines, but when they are studied together it's clear to see the impact one has on the other. A great deal of creativity is required to make scientific breakthroughs, and art is just as often an expression of (or a product of) scientific knowledge."

Given this description of the relationship between art and science, I believe spanking is one pursuit that can stand (because it would be painful to sit) in both camps.
