Hello Mark, as you identify the age of the child is key to what can be expected. No child older than 4 or 5 should be requiring being physically dragged over the knee.

Both of my grandchildren know what is expected of them when I give the order. They do take a little bit of guiding into position, but they are good for their age and any reticence is easily overcome.

From about 11 or 12, it is reasonable to expect a naughty child to assume the position without any fuss upon being told by word or gesture. My three were all did this and I will expect the same of my grandchildren.
