I love your response. It reminds me how I tried to use math in everyday life with my daughters. Like you said, it didn't feel like "school" to them, but they were still learning, which was the important thing. The grocery store and cooking was the best for this (and could be tailored for ages):

How much did the last 2 things we put in the cart cost in total?

I'm planning use 2 eggs to bake a cake when we get home, how many will I have left from this package?

As they got older, Which brand should we buy given the different sizes and prices of each?

If a recipe called for 1/2 cup or a full cup of something, I would give them a measuring cup of a smaller size and have them figure out how many times they needed to fill it to get the desired amount.
