In reply to: Lucy 's message, "Effectiveness of corner time?" on 08:56:43 08/13/21 Fri

I'm a strong advocate of putting a misbehaving kid in a corner facing the walls. It's a good stand-alone punishment for "time outs" or to correct minor offenses. Let's say a kid let's the word 'sh*t' slip out. Standing in a corner with a bar of soap in his/her mouth can be effective. Lowering clothes and having to stand a corner with a bared bottom can be regarded as the FINAL WARNING before a sound spanking is added.

Corner time BEFORE a spanking can give the kid a chance to think about what led to the spanking and to figure out how to change his/her behavior. It also gives a parent time to cool down, if necessary.

Corner time DURING a spanking can be used to separate phases of a spanking. First a hand spanking, then corner time, and finally an implement. Older kids will realize that as much as his/her bottom stings, it will soon be sting a lot worse.

Corner time AFTER a spanking give the kid not only a chance to stop crying/sobbing/bawling, but the chance to "reflect" on everything that just transpired.

I hope this helps.
