I feel spankings are really dependent on each child on how needed they are to a certain age. I am sure there are some children that can stop being spanked at a younger age and I believe there have been some mothers on this forum that have done so successfully. However, I will have to say in my personal experience that spankings have continued to be very effective and benefited children into their late teens.
Like many of the moms here, spankings remained an option for mine for as long as they needed them. Until they could show us, through their behavior, they no longer needed to go over my lap. They were also told that spankings would remain an option while their father and I supported them, which included putting them through college.
That said, there has only been one time I've needed to spank any of mine in college, which was my son when he was almost 20. My youngest just entered her senior year of college, and where spanking is still an option for her, I haven't put her over my knee in over 4 years now. So I really do think her spanking days are over with.
