Hello Michelle, it's a difficult problem you have there. I've raised two girls and I know what they can be like at this age when it comes to falling out.

If I were in your shoes, there are a few questions I'd consider:

Are you confident that you know the full facts of what has happened? Is there more to this falling out possibly?

Have you ever had to deal with this kind of behaviour from your daughter before? Did you give any specific warnings about it?

Do you have any rules about trouble in school meaning punishment at home?

From what you've said, there are two main considerations to weigh against each other. Defending her little brother is a good thing. On the other hand, she responded to verbals with violence. I would be tempted to just give a severe telling off and warning if there was no previous and you have no definite rule about getting in trouble at school. If that's not the case then I would give her a spanking.
