Sarah,

That spanking and mouthwashing were both well deserved. Like yourself, I always had (and still have) a low tolerance for poor language. The only exceptions were similar to what you described (reactions to sudden pain or being startled by something). However, some words are unacceptable no matter the circumstances. I told my daughters that similar rules applied to their text messages as well. When they were younger, I would do phone checks and they knew that I better not see any poor language being used.

As for the actual spanking, it was exactly what was needed. I think it's beneficial that Derek saw the spanking to remind him to behave. Even though he wasn't in trouble, I like how you included in your lecture a bit. Does Andy's mom punish him at all if he gets in trouble at your house or does she consider the behavior dealt with?

I am sure that your downstairs rec room has seen many children spanked. If only the walls could talk :).
