Subject: One point about families at feisanna - in the "old days" there were more feisanna outdoors so families would spend the day.
In reply to: Thank you for your thoughts! 's message, "Wow, I had no idea that they lost so many. I have seen large families at Feises, and I am actually jealous that they have each other there." on 13:39:59 04/17/18 Tue

That still happens at outdoor feisanna. You can't really do that indoors at a feis in a high school or middle school - it's crowded and there is no place to go; little ones have to be kept under control with no way to "blow the stink off"; most families have kids who do sports other than dance so one parent is off with them on a playing field because the requirements for sports for kids have also become onerous; and so on. I think it's far less about who is showing up or who is judging - first off, you can try and avoid certain judges by signing up at other feisanna (though I have always told my dancer that in order to truly become a champion you have to be willing to work to convince that one judge who always knocks you down, and compete against the dancers you are afraid of), and because we live so close to other regions we have a wealth of feisanna to choose from.
