Subject: Stand uo for Dancers

Given the current outrage over harassment and abuse- can we look for a moment at how “similar” harassment’s go on in irish dance? Many will now cry Oh puhlease, but for those who are bullied, ignored, and mocked this is VERY real. It is harassment of a different sort. We all want to be “aware” and “politically relevant” yet it is parents of dancers and some teachers who SEE this behavior. ignore it and sadly - and you know it’s true-promote it. What ever happened to teaching our children to treat others as you want to be treated? The behavior modeled to children by adults is disturbing. Some parents are afraid to approach the teacher because they have seen the backlash it causes against the child..
I hear the cry - leave the school if it’s so bad. Sometimes the area you live in does not provide any other options and a drive of hours is not possible. Sometimes the dancers love to dance , don’t want to quit, but come home from class and cry because of treatment from other dancers and teacher during class.
Please - stop ignoring that this does go on; more often that we want to believe. Talent does rise and some work harder/better than others BUT all dancers deserve the same fair treatment.
