Subject: North Cast Feis Costume Rules

The North Coast Feis looks forward to visitors from out of region. If your child is competing in the U8 or U9 age groups PLEASE be aware of our regional costuming rules. The rules are not new to us but they may be to you. Every year we as a committee are put in the difficult position of disallowing a dancer to compete because the parents or teachers were not aware of or did not understand the rules.
The rules cover all U8 (and below) or U9 competitions (boys and girls). If the competition is classed as U10 or above the rules do not apply to any dancer in the comp even if they individually are under age. If in doubt of compliance please bring an all black replacement as a back up.

Here are the solo costume guidelines for all U8 and U9 dancers in the Mid America region as of January 2012:

The dress may be one piece or two pieces

No animal prints

No low cut necklines

No decorations including rhinestones or sequins of any kind.

No reflective fabric / (this does not include satin)

No embellishments.

Base material and appliqué materials must be solid colors

(No plaids, stripes, patterns, flowers or reflective materials).

Any embroidery and appliqué used on the dress must be of a traditional nature.

Length must comply with An Coimisiun

No Jewelry

Plain Satin Bows in the hair are allowed but bows may not be attached to the dress or used for a cape.

Plain colored satins that do not include sequins, glitter, or crystals are permissable.

Buckles without rhinestones are permitted on shoes.

All current school costumes are grandfathered into the rule regardless of threads or materials. All rhinestones would need to be removed.

All of the above applies to headpieces, socks and shoes.

This is for all U8 and U9 Boy and Girl Solo Championships and Traditional Set Competitions at the Oireachtas and all levels U9 and younger at Mid-American feiseanna. Mid-American costume rule apply to all dancers entered in a Mid-American feis.

Please pass the word to your out of region friends. We want everyone to have the best day possible.
