Subject: I think it’s important to find some middle ground (m)
In reply to: Dm 's message, "Would you rather have cheaper entry fees for a feis with simple awards (candy/ribbons/etc) or do you like paying the higher price for the sashes and trophies?" on 19:07:46 07/03/18 Tue

For the OC dancer who is a WQ or WMH, physical awards can be meaningless. Toss the trophy in the box with the others. But for those who struggle and finally get that placement, the physical award can mean a lot. My DD slept with the first sash she got. First first? That trophy was next to the bed too (and she is not a wee dancer where you might think it’s “adorable”). She had some real hard times and when she came through them, those awards mean something. I do think they should fit the placement. Nice medals or small trophies for low places. Larger trophies and/or sashes for podium. Lasting (non-candy) round medals are nice to have when you’re new to PC or OC and may not get a trophy for a while. Just thought I’d toss in my two cents from the bottom end.
