Author: Right? Time for us to bear a little more for a change
Subject: We've been so lucky for many years having a usually easier travel to the NAIDC than many other regions. Many in NA have borne more expenses for travel than we have. Knowing the last several years it would be in Vancouver, we planned for it. It's not like it was just announced, we've had ample notice

If it's still just too much for you, fine, that's your business. But it kind of comes across as griping and complaining about it here.
The NAIDC rotates through the regions and after a long absence, WCR is back in the rotation and good for them. However, do they control airfares? No, they don't. They are doing their best to provide a good venue for competition. How you get there is on the rest of us, if you don't like the travel cost, then complain to the air carriers.
Why would the rest of us really want to know (or care) whether you personally go or don't go because of the travel cost? Will it change anything for you? Granted, you are looking for consolation from others, but nothing else will change. Know that is not what you wanted to hear.
Just a very forthright and honest observation, not to be negative, but let's be more helpful to others, instead of griping.
To others looking for better airfares, there are lots of discounted airfares out there on various forums, CheapOair, Expedia, Kiwi, Travelocity, etc. Most are not direct flights and may take a little longer, travel time wise, but will help save money. Even with children, travel through different airports can be an adventure if treated as such. Can also add overnight stays that will also save on some routes, and add to the adventure. This will give you flexibility in travel, too, along with adding a day or two before or after the actual time you need.
Good luck in finding what you need.

I checked flights on Kayak and was able to get Boston to Vancouver for a little over $300; cheaper than it was to go to FL or NO for us (NT) -- Air Canada is what we chose, 12:54:04 03/04/19 Mon
