Author: have stopped doing blackout feiseanna, too
Subject: Going to be the dissenter here. Don't care for the leo look. Think it detracts from the dancing and is boring. Not to mention that many wear inappropriate leos/skirts, and many older dancers don't have the necessary support underneath. Sorry, but it's not attractive for many.

Guessing gone are the days when people either borrowed a dress, used school costume, or simply didn't feis waiting on a new costume.

DD will not wear the leo look and has said she's uncomfortable because she is very modest. Many of you will attack this with comments about skirts being short, etc. but hers have always met the standard and rules. However, as a teen dancer, she is very self conscious about her body. She doesn't like the form-fitting of the leo and how she feels that "everyone can see 'everything', mom!" response. After one black-out feis, she begged me to never enter her in one, again and I won't. I agree with her. Please don't suggest vests or jackets, etc. because she doesn't want to wear the leo, period. Thankfully our school has school costumes and she's worn that in-between, when needed, but beyond that?

While it might work for some who are super skinny or even on little ones, it is really not a good look for others; especially those who wear the super low scoop necks or open backs where the bras hang out and pretty much everything else, too. Don't think that was part of the whole alternate costume rule, anyways, but there are many who wear them, stretching the rules.
