Subject: Decrease in feis entries over the past two years, they are looking for anyway to boost entries, from second chance, extra comps, and black out forms. Just two years ago, most feiseanna saw entries of 750 - 1200, easily. Now? Maybe 500 to 600. Maybe if more entered and not hold back entering?
In reply to: Is this how we alleviate the PC bottleneck? 's message, "Is anyone else tired of the plethora of 2nd chance comps?" on 15:57:55 05/19/19 Sun

Can't really downsize feiseanna more than they are doing already. Most feiseanna have dropped trophies and medals for comps and giving out only sashes for all and candy for for rounds, both cheaper to do.

Feiseanna costs have gone up, between venue hiring, insurances, judges costs, musicians, stages, tabulations, etc. In order to provide for competitions for all of us, they have to cover their costs, right? They've not really raised entry rates over the last 25 years all that much in comparison to the rise of costs running these things. (btw, a grades entry 25 years ago was about $5 and now $10 - that's maybe a change of 25 or 30 cents a year, boiled down - whatever activity has only increased a quarter per year? Even champs haven't really gone up all that much either)

Entries started climbing about 18 years ago, and they did away with the standard of double age groups and went to single age groups (comps were usually about 60+ dancers average). Shortly after that, at one point, it was common that any single age prelim comp had in excess of 40 dancers, usually 50 or 60 and no splits
Now starting to see going back to double age groups, along with the other things to make ends meet.

People used to feis more, even with less money in their pockets. Most families were feising at least 3 weekends per month. Same families, same faces, similar entry numbers. That is not the case anymore. Most families are only feising once a month, even with chasing firsts.

Perspectives and attitudes have changed.
