Author: withiout raised stage?
Subject: School auditorium stages are designed to deaden or take out sound & not the best for Irish dancing. Gymnasium floors are usually sprung floors, designed for give with athletics, a preferable option with Marley or linoleum over top (to protect the wood). People want champs in auditoriums, but

Dancers lose energy trying to get sound out of it and they will say their legs are dead afterwards. It takes more effort dancing on a regular school stage than on a gymnasium floor.

(btw, it's why they mic the floors of Irish dance shows in many venues, due to the stages being designed for plays and not dance. A play doesn't need the distraction of the sound of someone walking across the stage)
