She is nearing the end of her competitive days of dancing. She would love to get to dance as a soloist at NAIDC. It would be great if she could reach open before she retires. If she does reach that goal it is unlikely she will feis much and when she does she will have limited expectations. She isn’t able to feis much anymore already because of other high school sports. She is a 3 season athlete and that has been a big part of her struggle to get out of prelim. Having a 2nd chance is great for us. We have been to several and the same dancer has not won both. It is also the same dancers typically placing at most of the feis so dancing against the same dancers twice in one day is not much different than competing against the same dancers week after week.
I get people’s concerns that many dancers reduce feising once they get to open so while second chance may increase dancers and revenue short term it may reduce numbers in the long run. I wonder though if prelim dancers don’t get as burned out chasing the firsts maybe they won’t reduce feising as much in open. Often the push to get to open actually takes the fun out of dance. We have seen this happen with friends. Second chance may take off some of the pressure and reduce burn out.
