Given he's coming from IU, and knowing the futility of football there (and seeing it a few times firsthand), I wonder where you get that from (you can tell me, I listen).

As for your point about $$$$, I am with you 100%. Ever since mid-majors began pi**ing on the majors' parade (NCAA), it has turned into creative marketing to keep the public excited ("tournament of upsets", "Cinderella", "David beating Goliath"), etc. etc. and so forth.

How long will this creative marketing last? What does it cost in the pure competition of the NCAA tournament? Well, for one the RPI & brothers punish heavily on strength of schedule. Then, you see a highly rated Gonzaga club twice get submarined in NCAA seedings (in the NCAA tourney, Cinderella NEVER wears white). I can't imagine the lumps in the throats in Kansas City when they seeded Gonzaga in the top tier last year. And then Few is so worked up over all of it that he & team forget they need to go out and win to advance.

The goofy, goofy game continues. At least, unlike football, basketball has a tournament where, after the seeding sentences are delivered, the teams have a chance to fight it out themselves. When will football have the nuts to do something similar? 8-teams, 3-rounds would be wonderful. Keep the bowls and do it for the three weeks afterward.
