I was the student representative on the Siena Athletic committee back in 94-95, and the one major issue we dealt with was Football...the committee seriously considered dropping it then, but ended up voting to keep it. if you can believe, there was a lot of internal pressure (some students, faculty, administration) to keep Football, even though it produced absolutely no revenue for the school. In fact, it should be no surprise that is was a huge money loser for the school, like may other sports. I remember getting a couple of threatening phone calls from Football players, saying I'd be in trouble if Football was cut...that was pretty humorous.

I'll never quite understand why we voted to keep it...as the student rep, I'm pretty sure I was not privy to all the information, internal politics going on, etc., but on paper it seemed to make no sense to keep it.

My sophomore year, members of the Football team went door to door recruting players, even people who had never played a minute of HS football...that should have been clue #1 that this was not a serious program. Not being in the area now, I can't speak about its current status, but just 8 or so years ago, it was an absolute joke of a program, and the team would have lost to most d-3 teams.

Anyhow, that is my long winded way of saying I'quite certain that there is nothing that requires us to have a football team...it was just a school decision to keep it.
