The issue of students at games goes well beyond Siena.

At one time an on-campus facility was a great asset but its value has diminished over time. The average student now has simply too many entertainment alternatives to college sports and going out on a cold, wintry night. The value of an on-campus arena continues to have purchase down south but up north the smart money is on attracting alumni and even more importantly, subway alumni.

The loyalty of Siena's alumni is admirable but their demographics are a point of concern. My guess is that Siena has one of the older alumni bases in the nation and that is due to Siena's historic regional and local appeal. Along with the growth of your team has been the growth of Siena as an eastern college. As a result students are matriculating from a wider geographic area and upon graduation moving to a wider geographic venues outside of Albany, an historic staple due to the State and non-transferable employment opportunities.

The notion of leaving the Pepsi will not be seriously considered, I believe, unless Siena has 3-4 really down years and/or UAlbany simply begins to demand the prime dates. Once UAlbany figures it out--and they will--and they garner a few quality OOC wins--and they will--they will begin to look at the Pepsi. UA's budget has to be 2, 3 times that of Siena that will put them in the drivers seat re scheduling and everything else.

It is much wiser for Siena, in my opinion, to invest in cultivating a subway alumni through advertising and promotion. Siena does a fine job now reaching many people beyond the Siena community per se and this initiative is the most effective use of expendable dollars, not an on-campus facility.
