I think you meant "get the Gais to back off":) Which gai the way, it's worth noting two things about Deng Gai and Ajou Deng against Iona. First, while Deng did get 4 fouls pretty early in the second half--he didn't foul out, and he surely would have last year. I hope this is the sign of defensive and overall basketball maturity that people have been hoping for with Gai. Courtney Fields, who went off with 26 points, did foul out and was not available when Iona needed him down the stretch.
Second, Ajou had probably his best game of the year against Iona. 6 rebounds, a few big hoops, and generally-finally--was a "factor" in the game. If you are one of the Fairfield Faithful, you have been waiting for the stretch when these two are clicking and firing on all cylinders.
