I also want to add that the Department of Education has been fortunate to get funding from JOCA, to fund rural school energy and lighting. While this is meant initially to help provide lighting for schools in the rural areas for teachers to prepare lessions, my hope is that that will quickly develop also to help provide energy source for other appliances also such as computers, TV, radio, photo copy, etc. which we totally lack at this point.

We hope that if schools have such energy sources from the sunlight which we have an abundance of, we can develop other systems for information storage and retrieval and increase the opportunities for distance education learners to be able to use, for example, the internet, WWW. They will be able access information, not only to assist them in the general knowledge about the world but would hopefully give them the experience to use such technology so that when their turn comes to enter colleges and universities they are aware of the possibilities of information technology and perhaps many will opt to do their studies from a distance. This will certainly revolutionize the learning processes and the education system in the country will have to gear up for this too.

If you want to gain more information about the rural school energy and lighting project you can do so the the web below.

SOLAR LIGHTING PROJECT IN RURAL PNG SCHOOLS

I can see great hope for education once such infrastructure become really common and affordable for the rural population.

And we will certainly look forward to learn more about new developments taking place that will help in this concept of HIGHER EDUCATION WITHOUT CAMPUS.

I am indeed encourged and excited by these new developments.
