TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH, IT IS THE CULTURAL NORM FOR MOST PEOPLE TO HABITUALLY LIE. TRADITIONALLY THERE WERE NO WRITTEN RECORDS OR OTHER LASTING MEANS OF ANCHORING THE "TRUTH" I.E. A REALITY OF WHAT OCCURRED. THE TRUTH IS MERELY WHAT YOU CAN GET MOST PEOPLE TO BELIEVE.

IT SHOULD BE OBVIOUS. THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM, CHURCH SYSTEM AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS SLOWLY BECOMING PAPUA NEW GUINEAN IN MANY ASPECTS, MUCH LIKE THE CHURCHES DID IN AFRICA.

IT IS DEFINITELY A CULTURAL "NORM". THAT DOESN'T MEAN ALL PEOPLE TEND TOWARDS THIS END, BUT A GREAT MANY DO. JUST LIKE IN OTHER CULTURES, LYING IS COMMON. PERHAPS IT IS LESS HIDDEN IN PNG THAN IT IS IN SOME OTHER CULTURES.

I THINK THE "VALUES" TAUGHT TO US ARE DIRECT IMPORTS FROM AN ALIEN CULTURE. WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE VALID FOR PAPUA NEW GUINEA IS FOR PAPUA NEW GUINEANS TO DECIDE. ACTUALLY, PAPUA NEW GUINEANS HAVE ALREADY DECIDED BY CHOOSING WHAT TO EMBRACE AND WHAT TO IGNORE AMONGST ALL THE FOREIGN IDEAS AND VALUES.
