In reply to: NUSuperfan 's message, "Hammond" on Tuesday, March 22, 02:48:51pm

... for both parties. In Hammond's case, he gave Niagara 4 good years, he was loyal, and he's earned the chance to test his game at a P5-ish level. In Niagara's case, it's time to break the tether and develop some new offensive talent. It might not help for next season, but it's also probably not worth another year of watching Hammond be ball dominant just to scratch out 3 or 4 more extra wins. Not much difference between 13-17 and 17-13. Get some new kids on the floor and watch them grow together and take their lumps. It should help out by 2024-2025.

You must like Niagara losing ! You must like Niagara rebuilding ! That's right, not reloading, ----rebuilding ! Niagara's kind of rebuilding takes twice as long as other competitive mid-major programs. Even if Harlan is great, it's going to be hard to replace Marcus.

With Marcus, we had a very good backcourt. Without him, it's a HUGE question mark. IF Iorio leaves that's another starter gone. Already we have lost 5 of our top 6 players.

I was really looking forward to Hammond and Harlan together with all the other eligible guys coming back for another year. One that could have been a winning season with the possibility of dancing. Now everything depends on the STINKIN' PORTAL.

Hammond's decision was a no brainer. The extra year was a bonus and he would be not wise to explore a graduate program
that combined a good basketball program.
He was loyal for 4 years. Honored his commitment.
Also I agree good for the school. The 5 grad students didnt do much to help NU. Team has to be centered around the future even if it means a down year.

Hearing that Pitt is working very hard to lock up Hammond

Pitt? I mean, I guess if Hammond really wants to play in the ACC just for the sake of it. Heck… he’d have a better shot at going to the dance by staying at NU. Better odds of them winning a few in a row in the MAAC Tournament than Pitt doing anything in the current makeup of the ACC. That program died when the Big East split.
