Niagara selected for MAAC, A-Sun tourney in Ireland

Niagara will test its luck in Ireland next season.

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Atlantic Sun Conference and Inspirus Sports Management announced the creation of the MAAC/ASUN Dublin Basketball Challenge. The Purple Eagles and Rider will be the two MAAC men’s teams featured in the eight-team field. Each conference will have two men’s and women’s representatives.

Marist and Rider will represent the MAAC on the women’s side, while Central Arkansas and Stetson men will compete for the Atlantic Sun and North Florida and Eastern Kentucky for the women.

The games will be played on Nov. 18-19 at National Basketball Arena in Dublin, Ireland. Matchups were not announced.

“We are excited to be a part of the MAAC/ASUN Challenge in Dublin,” Niagara head coach Greg Paulus said in a press release. “We want to give our student-athletes a first-class experience on and off the court and this is a terrific opportunity for our university, program and student-athletes.”

None of the eight teams selected finished above .500 last season.

Maryland men’s basketball’s 2022-23 nonconference slate is almost complete.

The Terps have reportedly set up a slew of games against non-power five teams, including a mixture of local, regional and national opponents to fill in gaps between announced matchups with UCLA and Tennessee.

Maryland will open its season on November 7 against MAAC opponent Niagara, which the Terps last faced back in 2013 during the first round of the NIT.

Story LinksCincinnati.com

NEWARK, NJ - The NJIT men's basketball team will have a new look in 2022-23 and Head Coach Brian Kennedy has announced he program's first newcomer, Paul McMillian IV.

McMillan IV is the highest ranked recruit in program history as the standout is ranked 123rd on the Rivals Top 150 and recently took home Gatorade State Player of the Year honors in his home state of Ohio.

The point guard scored 2,658 career points in high school, topping Lebron James' high school career total and finishing sixth all-time in Ohio.

"We are excited to welcome Paul to the NJIT Basketball family," said Kennedy, who will begin his seventh season leading the Highlanders this fall. "He has a commitment to excellence on and off the court."

McMillan IV played scholastically at Woodward High School and was named Ohio's Division II Co-Player of the Year in addition to his Gatorade Player of the Year honor. Additionally, McMillian IV averaged at least 27 points per game in each of his three seasons at Woodward and he helped lead his team to a pair of CMAC-Red Divsion titles.

"Paul's work ethic and academic mindset earned him the honor of Valedictorian of his senior class," added Kennedy. "His commitment to both academics and basketball will set him up for success on the court and within our community. We know Paul will be a valued member of our University for years to come."

Kennedy will continue to introduce his newcomers as the month of June continues.

I don’t get the Niagara Purple Eagles basketball trip to Ireland. Canisius Golden Griffins basketball use to have trips like this too. I get the educational part of it. But the money resources for a trip like this like with Canisius basketball could be spent on more productive things like facilities to actually improve the Niagara Purple Eagles. Again trips like this are luxuries for programs like Notre Dame and Duke.

Niagara like Canisius needs to improve there facilities and more importantly get there basketball games on television locally so more of Western New York sports fans know Niagara and Canisius exist in Division I basketball today. That is the number one reason why Canisius and Niagara basketball never made it big in Western New York. It is madness to not be on local television out of site out of mind. I would spend every last dollar I had if I was Niagara and Canisius to get all my basketball games on television locally. Again you need generations of Western New York children to have schools like Canisius and Niagara basketball games on television. Then eventually more local student athletes will want to potentially play at Niagara and Canisius. A kid in Los Angeles sees USC and UCLA football and basketball locally on television that needs to change or both Western New York schools or both should forget Division I basketball Ireland is a waste of money use all the money to get Niagara Purple Eagles basketball games on local television in my opinion. Go Purple Eagles! Let’s Go Buffalo

I agree Niagara and Canisius should get their games aired on local TV...they had that back in the old Empire Sports days but those days are long gone.
