In reply to: Maldez 's message, "Re: Bob Lanier - 1948-2022" on Wednesday, May 11, 06:25:24pm

Bob went about a decade with the Pistons where he averaged about 23/24 ppg, shot over 50%, and played around 35mpg. Haven't see anyone out of WNY close to his abilities maybe never.

One could argue, playing under today's NBA rules, that Murph's career numbers would have been 2-3 ppg higher. And that's being conservative. The Rockets would have had Murph floating outside the 3-point line, especially with Moses underneath. Imagine if Murph would have been able to dedicate his game to 3-point shooting. He might have been Steph Curry before Steph Curry.

That said, it's also likely Lanier could have been today's version of Brook Lopez. A good spot up 3-point shooter in addition to his deadly low post game.

Either way, both players have to be considered the best 2 college players to lace them up in WNY. I know Costello was great, Manny Leaks, Tom Stith, Randy Smith, some of the great Canisius players. But Lanier and Murph have to be 1 and 2.

"Lanier and Murph have to be 1 and 2 in WNY."

Yep, nobody else is even close.
