In reply to: RCM 's message, "Re: NU In The Red" on Thursday, July 14, 03:41:59pm

Besides all of the above posts, you have to consider the rise of the vocation and technical 2 year Associate in Science programs, as well as, the Certificate and Diploma study schools that offer training in pragmatic areas that are attractive to employers in those fields of study. The tuition and fees for those AS and Certificate/Diploma programs are a tiny fraction of the costs students/parents pay to the 4 year universities and colleges. This is where post-secondary higher education is headed.
A large number of prospective students are not going to attend college due to the prohibitive costs associated with traditional 4 year schools. Many of them go from HS straight to work. Others are going to the vocational, technical and career schools I mentioned above to pursue their career dreams.
The future is NOT rosy for the thousands of 4 year schools that are now facing economic survival. Hundreds, if not thousands will go out of business in the near and not so distant future.
