...try a change of pace by picking up a couple of basketball games against A-10 schools such as St. Joseph's, Dayton, St. Louis, Rhode Island, Xavier, or even a BE school like Providence. Why do I sense that some folks think this "slight" change in scheduling would be an unrealistic possibility, and not a positive move for NU basketball? I thought NU's recent game against Duquesne was a great contest. No, Duquesne is not exactly Goliath, but it was a good game against an A-10 school! Let's try a few more! What would be the risk, and what would NU have to lose other than potentially a few games? At least in these matchups NU would stand a realistic chance at the upset, and yes in my opinion victories over any of these programs would be considered upsets! It sure would be better than games against schools like Binghampton, American, or Youngstown State to name few! The only "powerhouse program" that I would like to see NU get back on their yearly schedule is home and away against Syracuse, and have NU's home game played at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Perhaps St. Bonaventure could play in the first game of a double header against another regional upper mid-major. SU plays most of the other D-1 colleges in upstate New York, so why not NU? Of course this would all depend on whether the Orange would be willing to play in such a "small" (10,000 plus, and I think it would sell out every time) arena so close to their beloved Carrier Dome! I'm certain that the regional alumni from all three schools would love to see these matchup on a semi-annual basis. Again I do think JAM has done a great job at NU with which we should all be pleased, but why not take a chance & change the pace a bit by scheduling "slightly" upward? The exception of course being SU which would be a "big step" upward! But speaking for myself it sure would be fun for us NU locals in the Rochester region! Just a few thoughts, and in my opinion not highly unreasonable!

Good question MrNU88 , even the suggestion of a slight uptick is met with predictable talk of " losing by forty " , "whoring out " , or " that's the way they want it ". Take your pick of excuses, if you don't like those there's plenty more in the excuse bin .

It's a very legitimate question that has been posed a number of times , and yet we're still waiting for a logical answer.

My post about "whoring out" was for money games on the road not finding home and away contracts. I actually said I would like to see better schdules but I perfer post season appearances better. So if you are to quote me, please be accurate because I know that it can be difficult for you

It is going to be a great venue and is a solid project by the university. There really is not a way for you to be anti NU on this one so you ignore this great job by NU

The fields look narrow, no? And the white bags will be tough to negotiate by the teams.

And why did they put up all of those electric lines, the score board?

Just kidding, it looks like a great addition for NU sports.

The best thing is that many games that could not be played due to inclement weather can now be played. Also, other schools might be interested in renting out the facility for their games as well, especially the play-offs, for some athletic income.

Does NFHS have artificial turf?

Will the lockers be in Scaffidi?

dekes......please decipher for me what you're trying to say .

If you're looking for home and home .....good luck in trying to play up games in Gallagher, it's either going to be on the road ( whoring out as you phrase it ) or at HSBC.

I just don't see what the big deal is.

Make sure you stay up and wait for his response. Don't worry, you'll have an answer between 3:30 AM and 4:00AM, depending on how much mail he has received.

No disrepect to you le or to 88....but it doesn't.

I've asked this several times when this subject has come up in the past but I've never gotten an answer....

****WHY - FOR WHAT REASON(S) - would MAJOR CONFERENCE teams want to schedule a game with Niagara....let alone a home & home contract ???****

Now, @SYRACUSE....they might agree to it. 40-60 chance.

LASALLE ? Possible for 'Old Times Sake', but the Explorers already trek to St. Bona/WNY in league play. Ditto for ST. JOES, DUQUESNE, DAYTON, URI, FORDHAM, XAVIER, UMASS, etcetera.

Who else....PROVIDENCE ? SETON HALL ? VILLANOVA ? DEPAUL ? NOTRE DAME ? ANYONE IN THE BIG EAST ?? See their built-in annual treks to Syracuse !! Heck, we've even now lost the ST. JOHN'S game !

Where do ya wanna try next ? The ACC ? SEC ? UCLA ? KANSAS again ???

There's only one way to get a possible game with a MAJOR team....on the road in a GUARANTEE shot ! And go into that deal with your eyes wide open....with the heavy odds that you're going to get clobbered !

EXIBIT A - Canisius over the past 7-9 seasons on OOC scheduling !!!

It does none of them any good for them to risk coming to Gallagher with a potential for a loss.

That's the additional angle I didn't mention.

A couple years ago I remember reading an article on line from the Boston Globe(?) about Boston College deciding to drop/end it's ancient annual hoops series with Holy Cross ( see St. John's - NU ). The jist was it was too risky for BC to lose to a mid-major that HC has evolved into ( see NU )from the so-so mid-major Patriot league ( see the MAAC ) as regards NCAA tourney seeding per RPI/SOS issues.

And I believe that prior to this decision, BC had only agreed that the @HC games be played at Worchester's 10,000-seat downtown arena and NOT in HC's on-campus 4,000-seat gym.

So in reality, JAM's success at NU probably hurts our chances to schedule an UP game - even AWAY under a 1-shot GUARANTEE deal.

It has NOTHING to do with a potential loss, it has everything to do with the size of the facility. NU could have an RPI of 300 + , virtually assuring an opponent of a guaranteed win , and yet you still wouldn't get a quality opponent to play in Gallagher.

Offer HSBC , and securing home and home contracts suddenly wouldn't be a problem . It's absurd to think that NU can expect equal terms terms with a facility of 2400 .

You should stay out of conversations that you know nothing about. You have no home and home with the HSBC. You have no home and home with the Blue cross Arena.

You couldn't be less knowledgable that from what you have posted.

sigh....but I guess you will prove different.

After I get Joe to schedule Longwood, Fla Atlantic, Oakland, St Francis, NY and Cleveland St.

Apparently those teams seem to sit just fine with you.

Stop with the ax to grind and join the real world.

NU 88's philosophy would improve NU's profile and create some interest in the Buffalo market. But let's all think small and be smaller. Unbelievable !

But we could easily use the HSBC to showcase the program in WNY and into other regional markets. Also, rather then letting the SJU series slip away ,we should be fostering relationships with SJU and Depaul to insure we play both schools on a regular basis. I just don't see any appeal in playing the likes of Towson, App. State, YSU etc...It is a big YAWN. We need better regional appeal, even Cornell, Duq's and Holy Cross would be an upgrade and quite possible to schedule in Lewiston.
