...try a change of pace by picking up a couple of basketball games against A-10 schools such as St. Joseph's, Dayton, St. Louis, Rhode Island, Xavier, or even a BE school like Providence. Why do I sense that some folks think this "slight" change in scheduling would be an unrealistic possibility, and not a positive move for NU basketball? I thought NU's recent game against Duquesne was a great contest. No, Duquesne is not exactly Goliath, but it was a good game against an A-10 school! Let's try a few more! What would be the risk, and what would NU have to lose other than potentially a few games? At least in these matchups NU would stand a realistic chance at the upset, and yes in my opinion victories over any of these programs would be considered upsets! It sure would be better than games against schools like Binghampton, American, or Youngstown State to name few! The only "powerhouse program" that I would like to see NU get back on their yearly schedule is home and away against Syracuse, and have NU's home game played at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Perhaps St. Bonaventure could play in the first game of a double header against another regional upper mid-major. SU plays most of the other D-1 colleges in upstate New York, so why not NU? Of course this would all depend on whether the Orange would be willing to play in such a "small" (10,000 plus, and I think it would sell out every time) arena so close to their beloved Carrier Dome! I'm certain that the regional alumni from all three schools would love to see these matchup on a semi-annual basis. Again I do think JAM has done a great job at NU with which we should all be pleased, but why not take a chance & change the pace a bit by scheduling "slightly" upward? The exception of course being SU which would be a "big step" upward! But speaking for myself it sure would be fun for us NU locals in the Rochester region! Just a few thoughts, and in my opinion not highly unreasonable!
