You're a wee bit off target, but nevertheless I am grateful you took so much time to direct your post towards me. I'm not the definitive answer by a long shot, but I am probably the only person on the board who actually spoke with Coach Mihalich about some of these issues and tries to inform the posters why NU schedules the way it does. I don't whine about things and cry like a baby. I go to the source and thus feel more confident when I post. Inotherwords, I don't speak out of my rear like some do. I have NO PROBLEM with the opinions of others, just taking advantage like writing the same editorial 50 times to a newspaper and having it published. I wonder why they don't allow that to happen????
It's not actually my opinion I post but more I would say MY INTERPRETATION of some conversations I have had with the coach, and because of illness, I haven't had the chance to speak with him in quite a while. I do however fell that his philosophy has stood the test of time and in that regard feel confident that what he told me back yonder still influences what he does today. I guess it does become my opinion, but based on facts, not speculation.
I have had the same thoughts that truthful and others have had, but rather than try to change things by repeatedly posting things on a sports board and trying to take advantage of a forum, I simply decided to ask the coach for myself. So although I do not profess to speak for Coach, Ed, or the program, I try to explain what I feel is the rationale for scheduling based on what I have been told albeit in limited fashion.
When a Niagara fan calls another Niagara fan a homer, that has to be a riot! Think about that.
I absolutely loved like crazy truthful's description of our schedule as one of a "civil servant". I guess that was suppposed to inflame me, but I couldn't help think that as a civil servant, it was against county policy and subject to dismissal if we used government computers to view non-work related web sites. Here is a guy who sits at his desk at a shopping mall an spends all day monitoring a Niagara sports board when he should be doing what he is being paid to do, unless wasting your day on the Niagara board is part of his job description. In retrospect, I suppose you can only drink so much coffee at the food court on a given day.
Lucky him. By his own interpretation, he is more of a "civil servant" than he thought I was.
At any rate, the original post was directed at DD, who I think has a great handle on the basketball program and understands why it operates the way it does. That's why my post had DD as the direction. It's OK that you stuck your two cents in by me.
I guess I am a homer because I live here, have watched an estimated 600 NU games and have gotten close enough to the program to have actually spoken with the coach. Does that mean I think I have a bit more insight than many others? Well, if talking directly with the coach about these issues and trying to explain them as opposed to whining about the same shit every day for about three or four years, yeah I think I have a bit more.
But, I try to sans the opinion and stick with what I feel are the facts, afterall "DOTS calls the shots". (Definition OF THE SITUATION defines the reality)
Thank God this coach won't sell his team off for a paycheck like you would like them to. Thank God he sees how valuable the Gallagher Center is to success.
Opinions are fine, but try to base tham on actual facts rather than speculation.
