An early question about next year is.. Does Anthony Nelson who was on the all rookie team and our starting PG end up coming off the bench next year? It could happen.. Think about this. One would assume that garrison beats out nelson for the starting point guard job and benn and lewis start with big ben. Does Cooley start to play a Small Forward/Wing position? He looks like he can hit 3's and get to the rack much like david brooks could... So with that said does Anthony Nelson come off the bench and if so what an addition to the bench. If we can sign Kyrie Nelson perhaps not, but if edwards, williamson, nelson, patterson and maybe kyrie sutton are on our bench I would be MIGHTY IMPRESSED. On caa insider it says NU has only 1 scholie left after signing Cooley. Is Kam finally done??? Any ideas?

Btw I know it is H.S. but Cooley averaged 8 rebs a night last year.

Nelson had a solid freshman season and I would argue a spectacular first half of the season. He played much better than Cruz at the same point in their careers. His assist/ turnover ratio was solid and he really didn't need to score with Fisher and Lewis in the lineup. In addition, I think maybe Garrison is being overrated by people on the board. Remember coming out of high school, he had only a few offers - Binghamton and one other college. I know a few other schools liked him but wanted him to prep. UConn only stepped in when 2 of their guards ran into legal problems. Got to believe that playing under Calhoon for two years really improved his game but he hasn't proved it on the court yet. Nelson has proved it.

I'm with hnk on this one.
There is a reason Garrison didn't play at UCONN and Benn didn't play at Villanova...they were over-recruited. Having said that, a year to mature can do wonders in their play/decision making, etc.
Prediction: a slimmed-down Kamau Gordon to surprise many with his play and will see many minutes

Garrsion will get 30+ minutes next year at the #1 and the #2. I didn't mean to dish Nelson because he played extremely well at PG last season as a frosh and will certainly be a key conributor . Garrison played reasonably well for UConn after the idiots stole the laptops at Uconn and were suspended. JAM will somehow blend Lewis, Garrison, Benn and Nelson probably into a three guard look. JAM has always gone with a 7-8 man rotation, why would it change ?

Hopefully JAM knows how to handle it - No super star but he's got 8 to 9 players - Does he know how to handle a bench?

I think it will include lewis, garrison, nelson, benn and Benson. We will have better depth with Patterson, Williamson, Edwards, along with the 2 from signed now.

That could be the starting 5, but you can't go by starting lineups. Often JAM mixes things up. Could see Demitrius starting and playing some in the beginning, but it will be hard not to give Austin some good minutes even though he is a frosh. I think the kid is a real gamer and a good get for NU. His video looks real good too. I would think these 5 you mentioned would get the bulk, however if you don't put Eric and Austin in there, they won't play better sitting the bench. Look for a spirited preseason practice.

Looks like a longer bench at this time.
JAM has always gone with a short bench.
Hopefully the upcoming team will make using a short bench hard due to lots of talent. If we have the talent to go 8-9 deep it will be very hard for teams to keep up with us.

We know he can recruit, we know he turned around the NU b-ball program we know he knows ho to coach his best five - But we don't know if he can coach a bench. He has NEVER done it here. However I think JAM will handle it well. I just hope he doesn't bury guys because he has a lot of equal talent on this team. I don't want 3 guys transferring because they feel they don't have a place on this team.
