I'm sure there would be a depth chart somewhere that might give you sour grapes, but I have witnessed NU make sure that kids graduate that they easily could have sent on their way.

By the way, as for all your other complaints on how hard it is to be a college scholarship player, my answer is for you to realize that as such, you are representing the school and your conduct should actually follow that path, at least with respect to the school. That's what you are saying "yes" to. Free education, food and lodging along with being a member of a team.

If you think that would be too much to bear for over 100K in education, I wish I was younger and had your talent because I would try like hell to get one of those seats on the bench. A sport last for four years. A free college diploma lasts forever and might even make sure your kids go the same route (at least to college).

Pretty good bang for the buck if you ask me.

Nobody forces anyone to sigh the LOI.

I'm saying, I would take getting an academic scholarship over an athletic one.

The commitment college athletes make is absolutely incredible, and you shouldn't so easily dismiss it.

You have to balance on the field/court/ice success with academics, and that's not to mention giving up all the great, crazy experiences most college kids graduate with.
