Subject: Hurricane weather

They said on TV that we are now in what is left of the eye of the hurricane. It's still raining outside but not much wind. The map on TV showed this going all the way up into Kansas. It's suppose to break away sometime tomorrow. Then a drying spell. Something about a cool front is pushing it out and the nights will cool down like late October temps. Guess we'll have to break out the jackets for early Sept.

Robert's sister called from N.C. They are expecting hard rain with wind. She lives close to Nagshead (is that the way it is spelled) They have been in a drought all summer and now the rains are coming. She said there will be flooding for sure. Hard driving rain does not soak into the ground like normal rain does. She really sounded worried. They have only been in their new house for a couple of years. She said they would go up to Norfolk where her daughter is but they might get the same weather and they wouldn't be any better off.

Our pond is full up to the top of the banks. If it keeps raining faster than it can drain out the banks will give. I'm sure praying that won't happen. Who would have ever thought that Arkansas would get a hurricane. At least we haven't had any damage. On the news it showed some areas where trees are falling down from the soft ground. We've had so much rain this year that the ground is full and soft. It won't take much for a large tree to topple over. Jason has these huge walnut trees in his back yard. One limb is almost touching the ground. We are watching it close but we live on a hill...Robert said we have good run off and he said the trees will be fine but that limb has him worried. It's away from the house...we've warned the boys to stay away from the trees. The hen house and the rabbit hutches are down there...I told them I would see to the chickens and rabbit and for them to just stay away. The cattle are doing fine. Robert and my brother went out this afternoon in the rain to check on them since the creeks are roaring...nothing can get across those creeks safely. Robert made it home safely across the culvert from work and the school bus was able to get across. If it rains hard through the night it might not be that way by morning. We were put under a flash flood warning about 6 pm...we are safe up on this hill but down below the hill it might flood and we can't get out till the water runs off. We've experienced this before so we stay prepared for such emergencys. So far our power has stayed on...it usually goes out with the slightest breeze but this time so far we've not even had it blink.
I'm shuting down for the night. I've got a lot to do tomorrow at my mothers and then here at home. I'm leaving early Friday morning and won't be back for a couple of weeks. It's one of those sweet/sour trips...I want to go...I need to go and get away for awhile but I hate leaving my parents and the boys. I know they will all be fine and this gives me a boost for the rest of the year. Talk to yall tomorrow sometime...love and hugs
