Mary - I am so scared of wildlife - well animals of anykind really. But my worst fear is birds. I know totally irrational and very inconvenient. Once whilst my hubby was in Germany a frog- (approx 2inches in length) - hopped on to the TV stand! (you thought it was going to be a bird story, right?) I was just there minding my own, and there he was! OMG! I didnt know what to do! I mean it was a frog! in my house! So being the resourceful person I am I reached for my mobile phone and texted hubby in Germany. I know, I know, who does that? but I really did, how shameful. I have to say he wasn't much help, he just sent a "lol" back immediately. So I got a broom and poked the frog, and have you seen how high those things can jump?? ahhhh just thinking about it. Anyway needless to say I wouldn't harm the little thing and just guided it out with the broom. SO Mary, yes I can imagine how hard your heart was pumping! but like Janette said, they were only being woodchucks, snakes and/or frogs...albeit scary ones.
