Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr were politicians and social reformers not spiritual messengers. I dispute that Jesus or Buddha were concerned with the social and political status except in making some spiritual points for their followers.
Yogananda as a brown skinned person in the USA encountered his fair share of racism. He certainly taught against racial discrimination. It is not clear that he did promote a policy preventing inter-racial marriage. If he did, however, on what basis do you describe the policy as unenlightened? For most of history miscegenation has not been encouraged. Racial equality and intermixing is an idea which is currently fashionable in most western countries, however there are many who do not regard this as "enlightened" policy, just as there were some who were opposed to the customs of 1930's California.
In another 50 years perhaps the current predominating view will be seen as a passing fad and miscegenation will be discouraged or outlawed again.
By what absolute criteria could the possible existence of a rule against inter-racial marriage be said to be unenlightened? Your judgements are made only by the standards fashionable today.
