Dear Mike,

Without getting into specifics, it is not possible for us to compare notes. Suffice it to say that my understanding is that the 3rd and 4th SRF kriyas are similar to, and not vastly different from, 2nd and 3rd in some other lines.

A good text for comparison purposes is located at http://www.yoganiketan.net/kyv/

Your statement about "doing both sets" for comparison is interesting. Can we separate the actions from our feelings about the actions? In other words, is there a "placebo effect", such that if one has a devotional attitude toward Paramhansa Yogananda, will that enhance the effect of the kriya? Certainly followers of Yogananda's teaching feel that performing kriya in the way he imparted carries with it his grace and blessing.

So one might ask if it is the actions themselves, or performance of the actions with devotion, that is the key to progress. Its a bit of a "chicken and egg" conundrum.... In many ashrams in India, seekers are not even initiated until they have performed a period of devotional service to the Guru. And then is the initiation even necessary?
