Bardo was only an example of the possibility of awareness being causal and nervous system being a variance, but vital for the expression of consciousness in the physical organism.

Funny thing though Hendrik, Jung and Freud use to take their patients back, through hypnosis, to 'pre womb' states of awareness that did correspond to the Bardo states spoken about in the "Tibetan Book Of The Dead". Jung wrote a preface to one of the editions of 'The Bardo Thodel' and discussed their findings.
