Subject: The real roots of TM
In reply to: Anonymous - 24 May 2002 's message, "Eponymous, please comment on this" on 07:31

If anyone still believes that the techniques being taught as TM are genuine, and the "Maharishi" Mahesh Yogi is anything other than a fake they should study Robert Kropinski's interview (links below).

Mahesh claims to be a disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati (Guru Dev). However the real spiritual successor of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati is the Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saraswati, a highly respected disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, who holds the distinction of presiding over both the Northern and Southern Shankaracharya Maths.

In the Kropinski interview the Shankaracharya reveals that Mahesh was never a disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, but simply a paid servant in the ashram. He received no spiritual training, and has never practised yoga. He may even have been involved in the murder of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati.

Mahesh has no legitimate claim on the title "Maharishi" and is not qualified to teach yoga. The techniques he teaches were made up by him, and they are not in accordance with the spiritual tradition he claims to represent. The claims of the teachings awakening siddhi's (yogic flying etc.) are contrary to the most basic principles of yoga. Furthermore the techniques do not work, and no-one has gained any special powers as a result of practicing those techniques.

Compelling reading for anyone who seriously wants to learn about the roots of TM.
