I remember reading about Muktanandas experiences of Khechari mudra. I believe that for him it happened in a spontaneous fashion whenever he left his body. Some teachers never talk about it and know that it is not at all a necessary requirement for withdrawl.

Kriyas spoken of by Muktananda, I thought were always those that came up spontaneously. Sometimes people would spontaneously roar, laugh, cry, dance and sing as well as perform Kriyas that they had no knowledge of, all brought about by the Gurus shakti. Different teachers have different ways of helping their students.

Many people KNOW first hand that, for example, Khechari Mudra is not essential for samadhi or leaving the body, but is a helping factor.
