Nothing profound here but...

We can do our best.

We have control of our actions but not the results. The results may be dependent upon past conditions we have no knowledge of, nor control over.

Surrender, as in, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all things shall be added unto you", makes life smoother, but is very difficult and usually does not happen until we begin to deeply realize our mortality.

In a general sense though, we may see what our future has in store for us by looking into our mind to see what our strongest/deepest desires are now. The past and future are connected like this.
