Subject: Ketch's Pictures of Mt. Kailas

Hi Ketch,

Have you read Robert Thurman's book entitled, Circling the Sacred Mountain? It's co-authored by one of his former student's and is presented from that viewpoint at times. But it also provides a engrossing description of the hardships they endured during the pilgrimage, interwoven with Professor Thurman's teachings on the Tibetan's beliefs regarding Kailas as the home of Bodhisattvas and the different levels within the mountain as their abode.

I enjoyed the book, and thought that you'd as well after viewing the gallery about Kailas that your posted. Those are great pictures of the holy peak; so sacred to Hindus and Tibetans both.

On another site about Tibetan Buddhism I recently learnt that the Chinese government has given a Spanish expedition the o.k. to ascend, mountain climber style, Kailas. There were many posts from people noting that it has never been climbed, and to do so would violate this sacred place for the future.
