The LA New Times report about the Sierra Madre house said it was given to SRF
as a charitable contribution. Member donations were not used to purchase it.
If it is owned by SRF, I would assume there are no property taxes paid on it either.
Given the spiritual level of Sri Daya Mata, I very much doubt she cares
that much about where she lives in the physical world. She is in her 80s,
has worked tirelessly all of her life for SRF, and I see nothing wrong with
her living in a comfortable, secure home. Since the house was donated, I
see nothing wrong with it at all.
SInce you chose Babaji Day to drive out and see this place, perhaps you should
consider re-reading the chapter in Autobiography of a Yogi about the palace of gold
materialized by Babaji. It might provide some perspective about the relative
meaninglessness of physical trappings.
