I'm not convinced that there ever was any "persecution" of Durga Mata. I suspect that this is a case of a few incidents being exaggerated, then becoming rumours, then being accepted as facts.

SRF magazines from the 1980's show that Durga Mata was an authorised minister for SRF (but, perhaps significantly, not authorised to give Kriya initiation) up till her passing. For someone who was supposedly hidden away by SRF a lot of people seem to have stayed in touch with her. Was she really any more inaccessible than any of the other senior monastics?
