I am another intelligent underachiever age 33 and have worked in retail management for about 10 years. I have been taking Strattera for about 5 weeks. So far, I have experienced all the listed side effects at a very minor level except the sleep problems.(I went to sleep four hours ago and decided to find out why I am awake on the internet) Here is a brief history on my five weeks. I was taking the pills after dinner before I went to sleep. The first two weeks went by without much effect except for all the side effects, but was sleeping ok. My third week was great! Procrastination was at the lowest level I have experienced my entire life.

Fourth week, I was mostly unable to sleep more than four hours a night and quickly was worse off than when I was not taking the drug at all.

I just started taking Strattera for my bipolar problem. I take 18mg in the morning and 2, 450mg tablets of Eskalith (lithium) at night to help me sleep. So far I have lots of energy in the morning and can sleep great at night since the strattera wears down about that time (what goes up must come down). Of course this is my 3rd day so I still have to see how I progress. Tried Wellbutrin but experience nothing but headaches, depression and uncontrollable rage the entire time I took it.

HI, I have just been assessed as having Adult ADHD and am at present, awaiting my appointed meeting with a shrink. So I am not taking any meds, and from what I have been reading, I am not sure I want to. After trying many anti-depressants over the years, to no avail, I am doubtful tha ADHD meds will be of much use. Nonetheless, I relate so well to the "cave chick" comment and find it difficult to function effectively in any way in modern society. I feel so relieved to find it may be because of ADHD, but feel somewhat doubtful that I will be able to find any real relief. Has anyone tried any alternative approaches, and if so, found any relief? I am thinking of trying a naturopath.

The most awful thing for me having adhd is my inability to remain organized in everything I do. I've taken anti-deppressants and for a time would help me to feel happy but would not change my bouts of forgetfulness or my inability to organize effectively. If I was a cave chick I'd be pretty useful but as a mom in modern society this sucks!

I've been on strattera for about half of a year now and its great compared to Adderal as far as depression is concerned, but it does absolutely nothing for my concentration. I'm not hyper, but man I am just ADD now. The worst part is I'm failing my classes and my parents are blaming me for it when I feel that its not really my fault! I need something to help me!

I have been on Strattera for 10 months and couldn't be happier. The only side-effects that I incur, today, are headaches, and occasionally nausea, dry mouth, and some minor tingling on my face or elsewhere on my head. (I am the only person I know, though, who has the tingling sensation. My doctor hasn't heard about this from any of his other patients on Strattera. Although he did say that it's possible, as Strattera affects patients, neurologically, as do all of the ADD med's.)

Personally, the first week or so on Strattera is very difficult: rapid heart rate, nausea, fatigue. For me, the 3rd day was the roughest of all. The side-effects diminish, however, and after about 4-6 weeks they become infrequent, although continue to have your blood pressure checked just to be sure. Eventhough they say that Strattera can be taken with or without food, I would recommend eating something at least within the first hour after taking it (if you took it on an empty stomach), so as to curb or diminish the nausea. Wait a couple of hours before drinking any orange juice, only because orange juice "cancels out" Strattera. The only continuing effects I have are the ones I mentioned above, but not severe enough that life is unmanageable. I encourage people to give Strattera a try, eventhough it may seem really rough the first week or two. Don't give up on it! It has a wonderful anti-depressant quality to it, as well. Adderall and Adderall XR were terrible for me. I never slept or ate. Strattera is indicated to decrease appetite, although that has never been my experience. I haven't experienced any sexual side-effects, or constipation.

Remember that as far as the ADD medications go, Strattera is the new kid on the block. It's only been available for about 18 months, so doctors are finding out more and more all the time, and they are relying on the feedback from those of us who are taking it. My doctor, (an ADD/ADHD specialist) has patients on each of the medications available for ADD. So far, he is finding that people who switch from LONG TERM use on Ritalin, Concerta, and Adderall to Strattera, often don't stay on Strattera, and go back to the other medication they were on. HOWEVER, those who go on Strattera as a first time ADD medication, are finding it very, very beneficial.

While I may never be the most organized person I aspire to be, my concentration is better; my relationships are better, and I'm getting more done than I ever did on Adderall or before medication.

I would recommend Strattera, especially to first time ADD/ADHD users, but remember that the first week or two may be a bit difficult. When you first go on it, start it during a week when you don't have a lot scheduled, so that if you do feel out of sorts, you can take a few minutes to sit and let it pass.

DON'T GIVE UP AFTER ONLY A WEEK OR TWO. The effects WILL pass.

Good luck.

Anon,

Thanks for your detailed input! Also, I'm glad you posted about the orange juice issue. I drink it every morning and just started Strattera a few days ago. Now I'll make sure to watch this in the future. It is really nice to see such a positive experience with this drug. I've experienced the fatigue and was aware it would probably get better. Your encouragement and optimism are quite helpful, thx!

I began taking Strattera today and noticed that within 1/2 hour my face was tingly and "funny" feeling. Thanks for the encouraging words. I am 35 and wasn't ever diagnosed as a child. When my son was diagnosed 6 years ago I began to suspect that I was his genetic link to ADHD. His ADHD is controlled very well with Concerta. He tried Strattera but the side effects were difficult for him to manage. He has recently been diagnosed with major depression. I knew that I could not help him to the fullest until I got myself under control better. I hope the Strattera will be helpful for both of us.

Thank God you mentioned that your head was "tingling." I took my very first dose about three hours ago! Kind of have the shakes too. Will stick with it!

I am a 43 y/o female recently diagnosed with ADD. I always felt there was something "wrong" with me and became more sure about it when I started reading about it because of my sons behavior. What a surprise...I was reading all about me!
Anyway I was given a choice of either Ritalin or Straterra, Straterra being the first recommendation. Ultimately I chose Straterra but have not started taking it yet. Your positive response however makes me feel more at ease about trying it. Thanks.Wish me luck!

In reply to head tingling...I have it BADLY!!! I took my first dose this morning (40 mg) and quite honestly, I feel very unstable. I don't feel well, I can't see me sticking this out as I am wondering how the heck I am going to get up and get my kids ready for church tommorow when all I want to do is stare into space. Maybe my starting dose is too high?? I feel very uptight and nervous.

i've been taking strattera for about 5 weeks now. my dr. strongly recommended beginning with a very small dosage and slowly working up. i began with 25 mg. for two weeks and progressed to 40. i honestly believe your dr. started you on too high a dosage. you certainly shouldn't be feeling so badly. the only side effect i've experienced is some restlessness at night. good luck.

I also have been on Strattera for approximatley 3 weeks and I had or have similar symptoms; tingling/itchy head, my face/nose at times felt numb or had a tingling sensation. Currently I am experiening on and off rapid heart rate which makes me very nervous but I will hang in there a few more weeks to see if such symptoms subside. I have little to no appetite since I contantly feel nauseated and wonder if that subsides over time? My son is ADD and on Concerta but I am also on Zoloft for panic/anxiety so cannot take anything other than Strattera for ADD.

I have recently been diagnosed ADHD and have been put on zoloft 50mg and strattera. I started the strattera at 40mg 1 per day, but that was toooo much. My face turned bright red and my ears tingled and were red hot almost all day. it was not an allergic reaction, just to high of a dose. Recently I have been put on 25 mg per day and that has almost eliminated the side effects. I have only been on strattera for a month and have improved focus and am able to get some things accomplished during the day. I have also found that it is becoming easier to deal with the public. Normally I have the "cave syndrome" too. Although the zoloft may be helping me with my social anxieties I think strattera is contributing in that department as well. so dont give up fellow ADD OR ADHD victoms, just take it one day at a time.

I am 47 yr old woman, who after scoring highly on a written ADD test, was given this med. I have been on it 4 months, and will be going off it today....my side effects are becoming worse, and more unbearable. They include, high blood pressure and pulse, headaches, nausea, daily dizziness that incapacitates, insomnia, lower abdominal pain, and constant upset stomach. When I went to the MD, I asked for help with peri-menopausal symptoms.....because she put me on hormones and Strattera at the same time...it has been hard to separate which was causing my problems. After much online research...all my symptoms point to the strattera...will be calling my MD this morning for advice on how to scome off this med appropriately. I believe it was given in erron, and feel I should have been placed on something for anxiety, not ADD. Be careful with this one....the heart symptoms can be bad......and the dizzy spells are way out there....when I lay in bed at night and roll over, the rooms spins......no fun...

My 12 year old son is on Adderall XR 30Mg and Lexapro. I really want to find out if anyone else is one this combination for depression and ADHD. He has been on this for about 4 months and still battles different side effects such dry mouth, agitation, and forgetfulness. I just want to know if anyone has had a bad reaction to this and what else was tried.

hi there, i'm a 27 year old guy and i decided to try strattera (because my insurance would cover it, whereas adderall was not covered). i took it for about 5 weeks, and i tried to stick it out for as long as possible hoping that the side effects would pass. i was constantly spaced out all the time, and also a feeling like i was kicked in the groin would come and go (its great feeling, right guys?). also not to mention a complete lack of sex drive, period. after 5 weeks i went back to the doctor and went back on the generic adderall. i guess i would rather pay a hundred bucks a month than to go through that again. any other guys (or gals) have this reaction?
