In reply to: Leonard Jr 's message, "OK. So, then which of the top 8 (since you say NOT Gabby) best suits the Miss Universe of today? Renee? Greer? Shinequa? One of the others? I beg to differ. Gabby has a shot at doing well at Miss Universe should she win Miss TnT. She has a presence that demands attention and causes people in a crowded room to stop and stare at her. To be honest, I am so torn between Gabby, Greer, and Renee that I can only throw my hands in the air and leave the fate of Miss TnT 2011 in the hands of the illustrious judges. Shenequa would make great Miss TnT Universe in about 3 - 4 years. For now, we can give it to the successful pageant veteran, to the extremely intelligent beauty of a medical doctor, or to the show-stopping fashion model. Either way, TnT is in the top 15 at Universe '11." on Friday, May 06, 06:33:11pm

All the girls need some intense work. we have a lot of diamonds in the rough. You all keep going on about the medical doctor thing and who owns a foundation and this that and the other do you all realize that the average age of the winners of the past 10 years is about 19 20 21. They are not foundation runners but girls who would "One day I would like to create a foundation..." Miss Universe 2009 was 19, 2006 was 18 these girls haven't started life yet and i am not knocking them I am just pointing out that it isn't a "what you have done in your country" pageant anymore like Miss World.

Now you said Gabby has a presence that demands attention. and Yes that may be true but again LET'S BE REAL if you are selected to be a representative to Miss Universe about 80% of the girls there have a presence that demands attention. That is why you have to cover the other qualities trade marked by Miss universe. TALL STATUESQUE PLAYFUL SLIGHTLY IMMATURE FUN BOUNCY GIGGLY and a term I like to call NAIVE CONFIDENCE (A slightly cocky carefree confidence drawn from youth and inexperience rather from knowing oneself). They are looking for girls not women. Gabby is a grown woman in every sense of the word.

Having said that. I think Sheniqua shows potential but I agree she isn't ready due to lack of confidence. Greer is great and I have personally met and spoken to her before but I know the MU pageant system well and I know the Trinidad and Tobago Pageant training system well and I think the problem now is not the girls that we send but what we tell them to do once they get there. I think our pageant company is great but they neglected to see the transition MUO made over the past decade continuing to train our girls for the 90's

case in point. I fully believe that had Latoya be able to do her normal fun runway walk that she does on the catwalk that she would have been more appealing than she was during the presentation show. I have worked with her before on different fashion shows and i know her abilities and what I saw on Presentation show night was not that. Even Anya toned down her walk choosing a more 90's "pageant Patty" walk. in 2003 Amelia Vega changed the game with her walk By 2006 the trend took complete hold as the swimsuit competition thoroughly displayed bouncing boobs, hip shakes and unnecessary twirls etc. Thank God Kennisha was able to make the switch however, we are still telling our delegates to be demur when they need to be brazen.

I'll be honest I don't know the girls that well for I am a trini in the industry based abroad and have only worked with the model girls in the competition. It is great to see new faces I admit, but at the same time. Look at pictures of miss universe. look at the energy from the smiles the eyes the intensity. Look at her body and the proportions and don't just look at 1 miss universe look at the last 10. MUO isn't looking for a new model they are look for the same mold. DO WE HAVE ONE OF THOSE? By the pictures which I admit are all I have to go on. I will simply say I hope their lack of international appeal stems from poor photography and not the girls themselves, however I have worked with the photographer before and I know his ability. And the entire Photoshop thing that you all keep screaming about. IT IS 2011 PEOPLE photoshop is everywhere in everything. I would never forget last years pageant people couldn't believe Miss Ireland looked like that on Pageant night. she surely didn't look the same way as she did in her pictures.

Ladies and gentlemen we have cracked the formula for a possible Miss WORLD WIN but we need to research a whole lot more before we get that third MISS UNIVERSE CROWN AND i will go as far as to say even to be a semifinalist.

I'll say it now and it pains me to say it but I don't see a contender in the bunch. Gabby at this point is the best of a good group but a disillusioned training system. However i must STRESS I am extremely impressed with LEE ANN FORBES our rep to Miss World however, as a bigger fan of Miss Universe I would have much rather her go to Miss Universe than Miss World. She has the MUO base mold I was talking about. To me because we have cracked the code for MW besides the stumble of last years rep I think MUO is the harder of the 2 to win and thus we really needed to send Lee Ann to MUO Because LET'S BE REAL Who do you think has a better shot at the MUO crown Gabby or Lee Ann? Think about the past MU title holders and the Trump factor before you answer that one. You don't send your Models to Miss WORLD you send them to Miss UNIVERSE.

Excellent input YOYO, and I do understand where you are coming from. I agree with you on several points:
1) Lee Ann is definitely Miss Universe material by far. The girl has the look, the walk, the fashion-sense, and the diva attitude to take on mega-giants like Venezuela, USA, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Australia. If she does not win World, I hope she comes back to conquer the Universe. She has the right “mix” of a Miss Universe winner.
2) Sheniqua could do so much better in a few more years, and in this regard, I am kind of hoping that she does not win this time around yet. She along with Kristy Evans (a young 17 year-old who placed in the top 5 at Miss Bahamas this year) both have incredible potential as future Miss Universe contestants (Sheniqua more so than Kristy at this point). Sheniqua would be fierce in another 2 or 3 years with that same "bold" divaliscious "Flaviana Matata" look, with some toning up on her body (not too muscular).
Now, I don't agree with you that Miss Universe Org is looking for "girls." If that were the case, then Canada would not have won in 2005, Venezuela would not have won in 2008, and even Mexico would not have won last year. These three are women that acted accordingly (especially Natalia of Canada and Diana of Venezuela). In 2005, Miss Puerto Rico was “woman” from head to toe and was a big favorite to win (she got 1st runner up as you know). Dominican Republic in 2009 was all woman, and also got 1st runner up and her placement had everyone going WTF (but I grew to love Stefania during her reign who transformed from a girl to a woman). I would agree with you and say yes the winners tend to be "TALL STATUESQUE PLAYFUL SLIGHTLY IMMATURE FUN BOUNCY GIGGLY" (DR in 2003, Puerto Rico in 2006, Japan in 2007, Venezuela in 2009). Jennifer Hawkins of Australia exhibited both qualities of a “girl/woman”: girl next door qualities but with a womanly demeanor.
However, one of the reasons why I think TnT women have done so well at both Miss Universe and Miss World is because of their intelligence, elegance, and sophistication that comes so natural to TnT women. I mean, as soon as Wendy, Faye, Maggie, Danielle, Valene, Gabby, and Kenisha opened their mouths and spoke, one could not help but be in awe. They were mesmerizing! Combined with their intelligence and sophisticated look, Miss TnT was a huge favorite at both international pageants. These ladies (would be a sin to call them girls) stood out because they were natural and they embraced their womanly attributes and not acted like some “bouncy” 18 year old. Latoya had that same image when she was crowned last year, but I think she "lost herself" for whatever reason when she arrived in Las Vegas. It was as if she was trying to be someone she was not, and this (along with the haircut and not so good evening gown) did her in. Yendi Philips did not act like some giggly, bouncy 18 year-old. Yendi was herself: fierce, aggressive, and intelligent. She had a horrible, cheap looking evening gown, but she exuded confidence from start to finish. In essence, she was a woman and not some high-school girl, and she made damn sure she was noticed by the Miss Universe staff. So, I STRONGY DISAGREE with your assessment of what Miss Universe is looking for. Not to mention that Peter Elias, despite what people may think of him, knows the pageant industry inside out, and he still works with the TnT’s Miss Universe rep despite not having the franchise. Now, I don’t know if he was behind “Latoya’s transformation” (my guess is that he was not entirely) but otherwise, he needs to continue to coach the winners just like he did from 2003-2006.
So, all TnT needs to do is crown stunner who are true to themselves and who would stand out because of their womanly attributes. This is why I am so torn between Gabby and Greer (minus the height factor which I think may be their biggest disadvantage). Both are insanely gorgeous and well-spoken. Renee is taller and more fashionista and has more of the look that you mentioned, but for some reason, I am afraid that she may end up like Latoya (especially since the Bahamas is sending Anastagia Pierre who knows the Miss Universe Organization inside out and is a big favorite for the Caribbean). Gabby’s age may be a factor, but at the same time she is one of Elias’ girls who has the pageant experience and could work her charm to seal a top 15 spot (despite the height issue) just like Maggie and Kenisha being former successful Miss World semifinalist. I am 40/35/25 with Gabby/Greer/Renee. If Gabby was 24 years old, I would say give it to her; at the same time, if she wins, she could just be the one to show the world that you do not have to be an 18 year-old to win the crown. Miss South Africa 2009 was 25 or 26 years old and placed in the top 10; she was elegant and divalicious as hell. Greer is new to the pageant scene, and this could work for or against her. I give Gabby the upper hand with the pageant experience (and like Anastagia, Gabby has a huge international appeal that sets the bar even higher for the two of them). Renee is also new like Greer, and if she doesn’t win, she should use the experience and the extra time to prepare herself for next year.
We just have to wait and see what happens YOYO. If Gabby, Greer (or even Renee) wins, they will be in the top running with Miss Bahamas. I don’t even see Puerto Rico or Dominican Republic being a threat this year; in fact, Latin America is weak so far. Haiti and Cayman Islands still has to select a winner and could come strong. Jamaica isn’t saying much this year and I doubt will place. South Africa is out. Columbia isn’t saying much this year. I definitely see Angola, Kosovo, Malaysia, and Costa Rica making a big splash in Brazil. Aruba, Curacao, and Ukraine could be a hit in Brazil. Venezuela, Mexico, Philippines, and Spain could be a hit or miss. I would be shocked if USA does not crown one of their mega contenders in June: South Carolina, California, Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, Mississippi, or Missouri; if one of these wins then USA is definitely. We still have to wait for the crowning of Australia, India, Panama, Peru, Brazil (host country won’t send a clapper this year), and Chile is back this year.

This is my “five cents”.

...I agree with about 90-95% of what you are saying. One point I disagree on is your view that we have many diamons in the rough... I only see one-Shanequa!She cannot be ready for this year's pageant (only about 13-14 weeks- you can be sure only 11 of these will be actual training). Maybe since you have dealt directly with the models in the competition -Kristy, Jessica and Renee- you know better but based on what I have seen, I just don't see any beauty pageant competitor among these 3.

The reality is, after Shanequa we just need to send the best competitor that is left. Believe me when I say that on television, Gabby and Geer are the only standouts with LaTisha in 3rd. I am convinced Renee turned up to compete but her body is just not there and I am afraid it will never be top 15 in SS at MU. If after seeing the SS competiton for the local final I have a different view I will say so. Additionally, the on the last visit to Synergy TV, Gabby displayed the same interview qualities that you say MU is looking for. The interviewer kinda cut her off and the other ladies also acted like she was being weird but I was left thinking if only these ladies knew that is the same spunk MU has been rewarding with high placements in the last few years.

At the same time though, I have to say last 2 year's final interview questions showed that MU judges are interested in a brain... a couple of them really required some reasoned thinking.

Again though, I must stress that at MU, beatuy comes first and if the young lady is not beautiful then they could just shut-up for the duration of the competiton because no one at MU cares to hear what she has to say. Trump is looking for someone who can generate cash and publicity-first and foremost. I actually expect the final question to be difficult this year because I think the MUorg has reached a new compromise with Mr. Trump in the last couple of years- after they have trimmed the fat to leave the 5 most georgeous ladies- they are going to pose some tough questions to at least give the impression that the competition is not just about airheads with great looks.

Gabby for me is the best out of the bunch and she is going to be a contender for a top 15 spot. It is not guaranteed- she is going to have to work for it but I think she is definitely in the running for top 15.
